Export as ZIP¶

This feature is available in Disk Decipher version 6.3.1 or higher.

Exporting as ZIP lets you package selected files and folders into a single archive that can be shared, stored, or moved across devices. Disk Decipher’s ZIP export is designed for portability and simplicity, while still offering strong encryption when you need it.

When you export, Disk Decipher creates a fresh ZIP archive from your selection. Each selected item becomes a top‑level entry in the archive, and any folder structure beneath it is preserved. Modification dates are kept so the archive behaves as expected when unpacked on another system.

Large exports can take some time; a progress indicator is shown and you can cancel at any moment.

Encryption and privacy¶

If you enter a password, Disk Decipher encrypts the ZIP using AES‑256. This protects the file contents, but it’s important to understand a limitation of the ZIP format: filenames and metadata (such as folder names and structure) remain visible, even in encrypted ZIPs. If this matters for your use case, consider whether sharing the archive is appropriate, or whether you should rename items before exporting.

Leaving the password empty creates an unencrypted ZIP. This is supported for convenience, but it is not recommended for sensitive data.

How to use on iOS / iPadOS¶

Select one or more items in the file list.
Choose Export ZIP from the action or context menu.
Enter a password to encrypt the ZIP (recommended), or leave it empty to export without encryption.
When the export finishes, use the share sheet to save or send the ZIP file.

How to use on macOS¶

Select one or more items in the file list.
Choose Export ZIP from the action, context or main menu.
Enter a password to encrypt the ZIP (recommended), or leave it empty to export without encryption.
Choose a destination in the Save panel.

Portability¶

The ZIP format is widely supported on all platforms. Please contact us in case the exported ZIP file is not compatible with a particular platform.
